Carrie Trutna's journey into photography began at the age of 11, the moment her father placed his 35mm camera in her hands. Her dad, a passionate early riser and road trip enthusiast, passed down more than just his camera; he gave Carrie a lifelong appreciation for light, land, and a good sunrise (though she admits she's more of a sunset person).
About the Work - A Harvest of Observation
For the Forged Fields exhibit, Carrie drew inspiration from a quiet moment overlooking her uncle's farmland. Rather than focusing on sweeping landscapes or golden perfection, she turned her lens toward the overlooked - the deer damage, critter tracks, weather-worn husks, and even a solitary grasshopper. Her goal? To tell a deeper story of agriculture, one that reflects the realities, curiosities, and emotions tied to the land. "What kind of emotion does a deer stripped ear of corn bring to a farmer?" she asks. These are the questions that guide her eye and fuel her imagination.

A natural storyteller, Carrie sees narrative potential everywhere, from lone shoes on the highway to shifting skies above a field. Her photography invites viewers to pause and wonder, to ask what happened before this moment? or what's about to come? Outside of her photography, Carrie shares her love of storytelling and creativity as a librarian, working with children to nurture their artistic spark.
