Nurturing Her Community with Art and Service
Aly Peeler is a multifaceted artist, mother, and community leader whose musical journey began with a ukulele during her college years at Iowa State University, where she studied history and anthropology. Music became her creative refuge, and after graduating, she returned to Omaha. A weekly residency at the Side Door Lounge launched her career as a singer-songwriter. Her first original song, inspired by suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, marked the start of a songwriting path blending personal, historical, and social themes. For over a decade, she hosted Omaha’s most talent-rich open mic, now run by MJ Peters (Mad Darling) every Wednesday at the Down Under Lounge.
A New Chapter: Comfort in Music
Peeler now sings for hospice patients, using music to bring comfort and connection during end-of-life care. She finds meaning in navigating joy and grief through art and is passionate about music as a civic and emotional outlet. Aly is active in community events and collaborates in multiple projects, including The Toast, indie pop group Ebba Rose, and the all-femme group Omni Pleasures. She also serves as vice president of the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards, formerly served on the Omaha Summer Arts Festival board, and helps lead Porchfest Omaha, a free October festival in Gifford Park. If you choose to attend Aly's performance exhibition June 14, you can expect to not only hear her music, but also to get a glimpse into her personal creative process. Attendees are invited to participate in an interactive discussion following her performance, and to attend the visual art exhibition "Telling Stories" in our second floor gallery.
The performance exhibition takes place on the third floor of the Columbus Community Building, in our Community Room from 4:00-6:00 p.m. The Community Building is located at 2500 14th St., in downtown Columbus.
