Artist Spotlight: Patrice Wielgus

Last Updated 12/15/2025

About the Artist

Patrice Wielgus is a Columbus-based artist who transforms a wide range of materials into meaningful works of art. Her creative practice includes expressive watercolor and acrylic paintings, detailed black-and-white drawings in pen and pencil, and unique jewelry created from repurposed pieces - each reflecting emotion, resilience, and thoughtful craftmanship.

Exploring Medium and Color

Patrice has always loved working with pencil and once shied away from using color in her art. That changed in her thirties when she began experimenting with watercolor and fell in love with the medium. Since then, she has embraced the joy of exploring a variety of mediums, allowing each to play a role in how her ideas and emotions are expressed.

Inspiration and Themes

Family is a central source of inspiration in Patrice's work and often appears as her favorite subject. As an artist, she aims to engage viewers with themes of mental health - inviting them to pause, reflect, and feel through art that is honest, approachable, and deeply human.

Art with Purpose

A passionate advocate for the arts, Patrice also volunteers her time as a gallery docent, warmly welcoming visitors and helping create an inclusive, inviting gallery experience.

Winter Market at the Columbus Art Gallery

Patrice is one of ten featured artists in this month's Winter Market at the Columbus Art Gallery, a seasonal showcase highlighting locally made art and handcrafted goods. The Winter Market offers a perfect opportunity to shop small, support local artists, and find one-of-a-kind pieces while experiencing the gallery.
