Telagio Baptista: The Watercolor World of a Visionist
About the Artist
The Columbus Art Gallery is honored to showcase the work of Telagio Baptista, a master watercolorist whose career spans decades and whose work speaks volumes in both realism and impressionism. Originally from California, Telagio now calls Omaha home, where he continues to inspire through his painting and teaching.
Artistic Style & Approach
Telagio is a watercolor realists known for atmospheric portraits, figurative compositions, cityscapes and waterscapes. His work ranges from true-to-life to softly impressionistic, always capturing a mood or story within each piece.
Utilizing negative space, limited palettes and gentle tonal transitions, his paintings give viewers space to breathe, evoking calm, reflection and emotion. "Watercolor is magical," he says. "An exotic medium with no boundaries.
Educator & Mentor
Beyond his personal practice, Telagio shares his passion with others as an instructor and mentor. He leads both private and group watercolor workshops across Omaha, nearby regions and beyond. His teaching is marked by encouragement, patient guidance and a belief that every student can speak "loud and clear" with their hearts and brushes.
